Updates and starting afresh
How the workbench keeps itself up to date, and how to empty the vault and start again.
Updates
A workbench installed with the installer keeps itself up to date. A copy run from a .zip cannot; it says so, and suggests installing from the website.
- When it looks: about 30 seconds after it starts, then once a day while it is open, as long as Look for new versions by itself, when it starts and once a day is ticked (it is by default). Check now looks straight away.
- What happens: a newer version is downloaded in the background, and installed when the workbench closes. Restart now installs it at once.
- The banner: when an update is ready, every page shows Research Workbench 0.1.1400 is ready. It is installed when the workbench closes, or now if you restart. with Restart now and Later.
Settings → This computer → Updates says where things stand: It is the newest, Looking for a newer version…, Version … is downloaded, or The update server could not be reached. It will look again later.
Your vault and settings are kept across updates.
Start afresh
Start afresh, at the bottom of Settings → This computer, deletes everything in the vault: projects, documents, notes, runs, experiments, evidence, backups and exported packages. The settings on that tab stay.
- Decide about Keep the keys for hosted models, so they need not be pasted in again. It is ticked by default.
- Type start afresh in the box.
- Press Delete everything but the keys (or Delete everything).
The workbench closes, empties the vault, and opens again by itself a few seconds later, on an empty vault. This cannot be undone.
